THINGS I LEARNED FROM THE BLOG PRACTICES

First of all I learned the meaning of the blog in our society and the impact it has had on the global media. It is a way in which the user has complete control over his personal publications in which no one can intervene. The author of the blog can publish anything he wants whenever he wants. It is a great way to communicate to the rest of the world anything that interests you.

Blogs are not only useful for authors wanting to make personal publications, but they are also useful for the reader as he can easily find a great variety of blogs that have publications that interest them and get very close to what they are looking for.

I learned that inside a blog you can publish the amount of images and pictures that you want from other websites and even share other websites with similar topics inside the blog.

I also learned the meaning of interactivity within the blogs and how there are many ways in which the user can dominate the blog to his own taste. You can add gadgets that will make your navigation easier.

A blog is a very easy medium to use to publish anything you want with all the freedom in the world!

Making this blog in the multimedia practices i learn things that are not only applicable to the creation of the web. It was a great experience.

1. Team-work. The richness of opinions and contratsts that working in grup generate. The importance of ideas contribution and the colaboration of each memeber of the team.
2. I have learned about the Beatles and Pablo Escobar. People of my group have showed me some insteresting pages that i will use in a future.

10 things I learned with this blog

1. I learned how to search blogs and webpages about the same topic as this blog, and so I learned to suscribe to it to know when they have been actualized.

2. I have seen very impressive images and I have learned their stories by the posts that my classmates wrote about them. For example, the story of the Tank Man.

3. I have learned how to write a whole post in English, and I have told the story of one of my favourites pictures and one of my favourites music group, The beatles.

4. I have learned how to include in my blog posts a video from YouTube, an image from Flickr and an audio track from Ivoox. The example is the Post 6.

5. I have learned how to include gadgets in my blog, for example the youtube video player.

6. I have learned to work in team with other people to decide the design of the blog and the topic we were going to work on.

7. I have had the opportunity to express what I think and feel about each image, and I Have learned my classmates' feelings about them.

8. I have learned to explain how to do the things I have learned by helping some people to do this work.

9. I have learned the steps to create a blog and add gadgets, write posts, edit the design etc.

10. The most important thing I have learned is the importance of working in group.

"Is more than a hobby or a profesión, is a passion"

Today we are going to interview to Carmen Pia, a photografer inside the "Images of BCN" movement. This movement was created in 2000 by some profesional of photography. First was an academy for beginners, whose objective was to introduce them in the basic traditional ways of photography. The courses were develop in Barcelona, every saturday the students met the profesor in a diferent places of the city to make the classes. The surprising success of the cours ended with the begining of a new movement that believe in the relation of images with the expresion of the peolpe. Barcelona was considered the perfect place were you can find diversity of situations. Nowadays "Images of BCN" is expanded in all the country an are more than two hundred of participants.
Carmen Pia is in the movement since the beginig, she started like a student an know is the subdirector of the academy. She is married with Lázaro Pérez, a catalan famous scriptwriter, since 1980. He have two daughters, Lucía and Sónia. Her dreams are to jump with eighty years of a plane and be with her family until she die.

¿How a surgeon ends in a photography movement and academy?
You never know the futur of your life (laugh), the only thing you know is that you are the writer and the one how chose the way it goes. Its always suprising.

¿Why did you aim in the photography courses?
My daughter Lucía was in the "teen eaght" so we were having some bad discusions an my husband sing as in the cours with auy saing anything. It was funny... Lucía was really, because she loved this things... but me... (laugh). So we started the courses and suddenly we Knew that it was our passion.

¿Passion?
Yes, photography is more than a hobby and a profesion, is a passion. It becomen into a necessity... we need photos to expres us and sometimes talk becomes dificuld... You know? a word is only a word... but a image is a thousand words.

¿What do you thing that bring the success to the cources?
I thing that the way of making classes... it wasn´t something new, but was especial... the city, the profesors and the students had a beatifull conection...

¿What we need to be in the "Images of BCN" movement?
Is not necesary to be an expert. We make photos because we want to expres our self is like looking at somethig you like an keep it for ever.

"Cien años de Toros, un siglo de imagenes" is an especial writen by ABC. It collect 200 photos of one century of bull-fighting.

Structure Home page ("inicio")

Is a mixted structure. First, in the home page ("inicio"), you have the posibility to surf the diferents parts (a Galery and two documents writen by some journalist) that are conected by the main navegation bar.

Abbey Road

"Abbey Road"
This is maybe the most famous photograph of the Liverpool group "The Beatles".

One of the members of this group is John Lennon, who was born in Liverpool in 1940. He was murdered by a fan the 8th december of 1980. He was probably the most influential in the music history. He's also a symbol of peace. He writed the song "Imagine", which talks about a world in peace.

Paul McCartney was born in 1942. He's still alive, and he is also a great music composer. His song, "yesterday" with Lennon, has been the most versioned song, with around 3700 versions.

George Harrison, who was born in 1943, died in 2001. He was the number 21 in the list of the 100 best guitarist by the magazine Rolling Stone.

Ringo Starr, whose real name is Richard Starkey, was born in 1940. He was the last member of the group. He was called Ringo because he was always wearing rings.

Currently it's the 40 anniversary of the lack of the quartet, and, to celebrate it, all their CD's have been reedited. (you can buy them here).
In addition, it has been released the game The Beatles: Rock Band.

The group founded the recording study "Abbey Road" in the London street with the same name in order to avoid travelling to record their CD's, because some of the members of the group had been threatened, and there were millions of people waiting for them in the airports.
A great number of groups have recorded their CD's in this study, as well as Pink Floyd, Radiohead or Dire Straits. Now the studies are propiety of the EMI company.

The Beatles are maybe one of the most famous group of the music history. They have been the inspiration of many actual groups, for example "The Blisters", a Spanish group that makes versions of Beatles' songs.
Their influence have been extended so much, that the "Ye-ye generation" in Spain was called like that because of their song "She loves you".

Althoug the group has desappeared, his tread in the history of music will always live, as well as his songs. People grow old, people change, and people die, but songs are forever, songs will always stay.

THE TANK MAN

The Tank Man, a symbol of a forgotten revolution.

When everybody sees this photo I believe they should think that it could be said more than a thousand words. Is a strange image that could easily be a simple montage. But it isn't, is a true picture of a real moment. One man risking his live, facing his nightmares, overcoming his fatigue...

In these picture a man is carrying shopping bags in front a line of tank. He is standing back to the camera so we can't know who he is. Tanks, in the wide road, are stopped because of him. Who is that guy? What is he doing? Why is he standing there? Is he afraid? I wouldn't like to be in his place.

Anybody knows the identity of this mysterious boy called the “Tank Man” or “The Unknown Rebel”. He has become a symbol of the Tienanmen square facts, the protests that students and workers made to demand democracy in China.

China was living a century of continuous changes, starting with a Civil War (1946-1949), followed by a Republic inspired in the Soviet system (1949-1958), the separation of the influence of the URSS (1958-1961), a Cultural Revolution(1966-1976), and the introduction of different capitalist reforms, all this under the communist regime. The country was devastated and people were discontent. The fight for the construction of democracy, the respect of the human rights was, in that moment, something inevitable for the government.

The Tienanmen square facts succeed on 3-4 night of jun of 1989. A group of numerous students and workers meet to remember the death of Hu Yaobang a protest about the system, start a liberation plan and finish with the corruption. The government interpret the action like a conspiracy attempt to finish with the regime and send the army of the nation to fight with the people of the nation.

Anybody knows how many people died because a strict censure that the government made. The journalist were forced to stay in their hotels and all the communication systems were cut. The images and sources of the facts are limited.

Nowadays these photo is famous in all the world except in China. The censure continued. People who lived the square facts live in silence or escape to another city like Hong Kong, a place that every year commemorates the remember of this night. The youth ignores the facts, not only because of the censure, but because their fathers are afraid to explain what happened. Every year the indicate date, the big communication systems like twiter, youtube, etc., are censured ... Entrance to the country is forbidden to the journalist or they are watched over, and the square is controlled by the police.

This image has a symbolic value, it represents all the people that fought for the change of the system believing that it was possible. The Times magazine considered that the “tank man” was one of the one hundred person with most influence. Is a shout for change and peace between the political power and the nation's people.

PABLO ESCOBAR

Pablo Escobar was a Colombian drug lord who gained worldwide fame for his crimes and ability to transport drugs in and out of Colombia. This picture of Pablo Escobar, seen as one of the most dangerous men alive in his time, has been very controversial in the media until the present day, 16 years after his death. The picture was taken when he was first captured by the Colombian authorities with dozens of charges on drug trafficking and murder. What outstands in this image is his devilish smirk, which looks as if he were mocking the authorities. The smile on his face, despite being convicted for serious crimes reflects his cruel and morbid character. Pablo Escobar had no limits whatsoever in his bussiness and personal relations; whom ever he had to kill or "eliminate" was murdered in a second with no regrets or compassion. The way he smiles to the camera, as if he were posing upon a normal picture, shows how he always thought he had the world on his hands. One can say that while this picture was being taken, he was probably thinking about how he wouldn't be imprisioned for long and that his conviction could be taken care of because with his power and money, anything could be done. Not surprisingly, Pablo did manage to mock the authorities and escape. Even so, he was then killed a while later and his sinister games finally ended. This image not only symbolizes the crimes of Pablo Escobar as such, but the strength and influence he has had within the world of drugs.

We are four girls currently studying in the Communication Faculty of the University of Navarra. During this first year, our multimedia communication project will consist in creating a blog of our own interest. The topic which we have chosen is the description and analisis of images that have had and impact on us.
